A message from Berkshire Gas President Frank Reynolds to our customers
Pittsfield, MA — March 26, 2020
I wanted to take a moment to check in with you to thank you for being our customer. I also want to let you know what we are doing on your behalf to ensure the safe and reliable service that you have come to expect from Berkshire Gas.
Fortunately, I can assure you that you don’t have to worry about whether or not we will continue to be here for you in meeting your energy needs.
At Berkshire Gas, we acknowledge and embrace our responsibility to you and to our community in providing essential energy services. And we are working hard to ensure the safe and reliable service that you have become accustomed to, regardless of the current adversity.
We have prepared for this type of event and have taken extraordinary measures to enable our systems and employees to continue to provide uninterrupted service.
Our work in the field has been narrowed to work that is performed in the interest of safety, or in response to an urgent situation. This will allow for the necessary social distancing to protect our crews so that they will continue to be here for you. As well, we have gone to great lengths to prepare our crews with the necessary safety equipment needed in the current environment.
Additionally, our office and administrative personnel have been decentralized and enabled to work from home. This has created a broad network of remote workers dedicated to providing you with uninterrupted safe and reliable natural gas service.
Additionally, we have the vast resources of our parent company, AVANGRD, that can be called upon should we require any supplement to our current assets and personnel.
We understand the devastating impact this event is having on the regional and national economy. We have suspended shutoffs for nonpayment, late-payment fees and security deposits. Additionally, we continue to work with our regulators, our parent company, AVANGRID, and the Avangrid Foundation to find other ways to ameliorate the impact of this event, particularly on our neediest customers.
We know that difficult days lie ahead. But I am inspired by the way our communities are coming together in these unprecedented times. We promise to continue to do our part to keep things together, and to honor the great responsibility with which you, our customers, have entrusted us.
